Hello, We are Durare, formerly Diasp.in (after the Diaspora social network), and we offer privacy respecting, free XMPP based communication service for the public. Not everyone can run these kinds of services because they take a lot of time, work, and skill. We believe access to free software services is paramount for free software promotion. Durare was formerly Diasp.in (named after the Diaspora social network), a Diaspora, Matrix, and XMPP service that we had to scale down by shutting down Diaspora and Matrix due to lack of funds and volunteers. As a result, new sign-ups for XMPP service were shifted to Durare to avoid any confusion. Not much later, Poddery.com's XMPP service was migrated to Durare's server to streamline the offerings. Since Poddery's XMPP service also ran on the Prosody server, it made sense to offer collective XMPP services as one single service with a choice of 3 domains—durare.org, diasp.in, and poddery.com in the future. So, at present, the Durare server hosts - 1. Durare.org's XMPP service 2. Diasp.in's XMPP service 3. Poddery.com's XMPP service 4. Durare.org's website The costs include the cost of the server and the domain charges. So, in total, one server and two domains — durare.org and diasp.in. The yearly costs of these are - Server + Diasp.in domain + Durare.org domain = Total: For year 2024 - ₹ 4890 + 1075 + 1250 = ₹ 7215 For year 2025 - ₹ 7855 + 1075 + 1800 = ₹ 10730 Expected costs for year 2026 are ₹ 10725 + 1075 + 1800 = ₹ 13,600 The projected cost is higher than the previous year, as server providers have increased server costs due to drastic price increases in various areas in the IT sector recently. We handle the cost for maintaining these services through donations. The amount collected goes only towards payment of server and domain charges, as the server maintenance is done voluntarily by volunteers.
